Fluconazole

Fluconazole is a triazole antifungal used to treat and prevent fungal infections, including vaginal candidiasis, oral thrush, cryptococcal meningitis, and systemic fungal infections. It works by inhibiting fungal cell membrane synthesis.

• Dosage:
  • Vaginal candidiasis: 150mg as a single oral dose.
  • Oropharyngeal candidiasis: 200mg on the first day, then 100mg daily for 7–14 days.
  • Systemic or severe infections: Doses may vary from 200–400mg daily depending on severity and location of infection.
• Precautions: Use with caution in liver dysfunction. Monitor QT interval in cardiac patients. Avoid combining with certain drugs like warfarin or erythromycin.
• Common Side Effects: Headache, nausea, abdominal pain, dizziness, elevated liver enzymes.
